I purchased a new voltage regulator for an early model 8n with a straight bracket. It seems to be the only one that I have seen available for the early 8n. The new regulator has three terminal posts on the upper side. The one on the tractor is the same as the diagram in the shop manual that has two posts on the upper side and one post on the side for the regulator to terminal block wire. Does this wire connect to the middle terminal on the new regulator?

I don't know where you got the regulator but don't be surprized if it does not work properly. I have purchased regulators from TSC, on line and New Holland. All but the ones from New Holland either did not work out of the box or failed shortly there after. When I convert to 12 volts it will be because of the difficulty in finding a good 6 volt regulator. I have tried to adjust the ones that did not work correctly but without sucess. Good luck.

Rich..... ..it is my understanding that all 8N's 6-volt regulators are now the latest variant 8N-10505-C and mounts on a sheetmetal adaptor plate that has a hole for the NON-PROOFMETER headlite switch. It should have 4-wires connected to it. 2-heavy (12-ga) yellow coded ARM & BATT wires. And 2-skinny (16-ga) black wires for FLD & GND.

All squarecan voltage regulators that I've worked with have lightly stamped and painted over (LOOK CLOSELY) identification functions (letter) for each terminal except the black ground which is usually installed under the squarecan mounting screw.

HINT: the ARM & BATT terminals are side-by-side. Move and form yer wiring harness wires to fit yer new voltage regulator terminal spacing. Simple, eh?

My first 8N's voltage regulator was mounted on 4-rubber babybuggy bumpers (grin)..... ...Dell
