Hey all, I need to pick yer brains. I am looking at a dodge pick'em up truck, 1996 extended cab, good shape. It has the v 10 in it. 110000 miles Any thoughts on the v 10 and that type of truck? I am not familiar with that engine. Any insight from past experience is appreciated. The guy is asking $3500.00 for it. It is not 4X4.
Thanks Rick T.

Thanks all fer the replies. I do not think I can justify 10-15 MPG versus the cost versus the use I need for a vehicle though. It sounds like a good price, and I would need it more than occasional driving.
I sure appreciate the advice. The truck sits in the Angola, IN. area if any one is interested, Let me know.

i own a v-10 equipped 5 speed 4x4. 10-14mpg. not bad but by no means good. fun to drive though. plenty of torque everywhere you need it.

I drive a 97 dodge, had a 94 before that, they've both been GREAT trucks.. I've heard good things about the V10,but never had one, only Cummins, just a little thirsty probably the only downside..If your just gonna use it when you NEED a truck, should be ok..price sounds real good too..

I had a pal who owned one back about the mid 90's. He never would tell me what MPG he got! I ran into a another man who traded his Cummins for one..said the V10 was hell for stout.....but it wasn't a year, he had it traded for another Cummins. That ought to tell you plenty on fuel consumption. Those 10 holes are thirsty. I would say so far as being a good engine, it probably is. I think it is very similar to the Viper engine...except it has iron heads and a different cam grind of course. If 4-6 mpg doesn't scare you, it might be okay.

Forgot to mention, but a few years ago,my dad bought a 4x4 x-cab ford with the V10..I checked it several times, that thing would get 12 on the highway..not great by any stretch, but better than I thought it would be..course,the dodge V10 is a little bigger than fords,so it probably wouldn't get as good..
FWIW,
Tim
