Hi all. I have my dads 51 8n. It was sitting around with burnt valves, multiple leaks, worn out front end, rotten tires, etc. After six months and more money than I would care to disclose it is back among the living. I did all of the work myself except for the parts that had to go to the machine shop. Let me tell you sand blasting is the worst part. I have the FO 4 manual. I have 3 problems. 1. The throttle range is very narrow and the governor response does not seem to me to be good. I adjusted according to manual and was not much better. the balls and bearing races all look good. I will get the shim stock to put under the throttle lever (external) to take out the slop there.but was wondering if there were some internal adjustments you could make. 2. Fuel tank is crappy. I went to my 50 year radiator shop and they tell me they can no longer boil out tanks. EPA shut down their vat. And all the others in the area. Have any of you had any luck with these fuel tank liners (kreme etc.) 3. I need a bench seat. Grandsons all think if it's running their butt ought to be on the seat. Thanks in advance. ( Don't want to ruffle any Pin feathers)

Sorehead - I had the same problem on the throttle range a while back. SouNdguy gave me some advice that fixed it and it went like this- take the throttle to governor rod off of at the throttle (bottom of the shaft.) Once off at that point, push the governor rod toward the governor to see if you have a range. If it opens up and also goes to idle then the throttle is not pushing it far enough. If so, loosen the nut/bolt on the lever at the bottom of your throttle rod. The throttle shaft has a notch on it to align the lever but there is some play so open it up. The governor rod also has adjustments that will affect the range in which it can operate.

Sorehead..... ....ain't nuttin' more fun ferr youngsters than sittin' in granpas lap playin' tractor driver. (grin) Unfortunately, the straddle tranny clutch & brake pedals preclude the benchseat option. Howsomevers: think motorcycle seats. I can envision a clever shadetree mechanic building/adapting an inline motorcycle seat with a small bicycle type seat infront and a stepped-up/slanted big buckett inrear for semi-standing proud grandpa.

And while yer motorcycle seat shopping, check with motorcycle shops for their recommendations for gastank cleaning and sealing options. New tank $150 (not cheap)..... ....Dell
