Since this dropped off the page I'm starting a new post.
Oh how I wish threads with replies would move to the top.

Quote:

Pooh..... ...shaft bent enuff that it squeels will be an obviouly visual thing 'specially when you power it for a test squeel.

You write..... .."It only does it when it gets to the top of the lift"..... ..that would most likely be the internal pressure relief valve poppin' off..... ....Dell ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- -----

I did some more hoggin today.
Pump squeeled at first same as last night.
Still squeels when it gets to the top of the lift.
But by the time I quit it wasn't doing it as much.
Don't know what I done. Have to get some fluid for it.
Definitely could be the relief valve.
At least that's not as expensive as a pump or PTO shaft.

Still, I wonder what I could have done to it.
And more important, how am I gonna fix it.

Thanks.

If you bent the female half of the drive shaft where it is still covering the male half of the drive shaft it is putting a terrible bind on the PTO and gear box bearings.

You should remove the drive shaft from the PTO and try lifing the Hog to see if this fixes it and then see if you can pull the drive telescoping part out of the female part. If you can't then that is the problem. May be possible to straighten and maybe not!

Hi Zane,
First thing I had to do is disconnect the PTO shaft.
The problem was not with the shaft or hog gearbox.
I tried raising the hog with PTO shaft removed.
It got a squeel when it reached the highest point of the lift.

Count your blessings you didnt roll it on top of yourself.
My beloved 8N is the only machine I use that I'm actually still a bit afraid of. If it quits squealing, the shaft has worn the hole larger. Is it leaking out the shaft?
You using one of those overrun protectors (tractor supply) things? If not, get one.

yes, I wish the threads would bump up.

Yep, I got an ORC on it. Probably never get it back off.

That scared me when I thought it was going to roll over.
I'm no longer driving into weeds if I can't see what's in them.
Now I raise the hog, back up over the weeds and lower it.

My 8N is the only tractor I got.
And likely will be the only one I ever get.
I got to take care of it.
But first I got to take care of me so I will be around to enjoy it.
If I roll it over on top of me I won't enjoy it no more.

PB
I agree about the thread coming back to the top.
Other forums you can pick up a conversation/thread 2 even 5 years later...
I just went back and found your thread.
Only one thought about the squeeling.
As you went over the river and through the woods (or was it A$$ over teakettle?)
could you have hit the pump on a rock? Maybe look for a dent or something damaged on the bottom? Keep us posted.

It's possible, I ran over some small logs.
I gotta remember it ain't a bulldozer.
I am definitely getting some fluid tomorrow.
I also will inspect the underside of the tractor.
I'm wondering if when I dropped it off that bank
and got it bound up if I twisted something.
And maybe the lift just needs adjusted.
If it is going all the way to the top and then still
trying so that the relief valve blows then maybe
it just needs adjustment or something.
It needed adjustment before this.

I'm gonna fence that area off and let the cows in it.
Let them eat it all so I can see what's there.
I see lots of kudzu and that's like candy to cows.
