The serial number on my tractor is *9N239374*.According to your tables the 9N serial numbers dont go that high. But it does start with *9N. This makes it difficult to start on this tractor for conversions, paint or selling it. Any info or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Smokie,

The early 8N engines ARE like the 9N/2N engine in that they do not have 8N cast on them. BUT they ALL have 8N at the begining of the serial number. I have one serial number 8N1045.

Remember the engines are readily exchangable. In fact there are other engines made by Ford that will go in an N. They were made for other uses such as irrigation pumps, etc. I have one of these, also. It has casting marks on the right side VERY unlike the tractor engines.

Regards,
Larry
