I have two questions:
1- Oldtimers hit me last night. I put a kit in my Marvel carb, soaked it in gunk, washed in hot soapy water blew it out with air. I started putting it together and could not remember where the other smaller jet (orfice) goes. Heck I just took it apart yesterday afternoon! I couldn"t tell from the instructions or from the book I bought at Tractor Supply. I finally put it in the only place I ould find that had threads left on the housing. I put it in the bottom of the base before I screwed in the long hollow stem that takes a 3/8 socket to tighten. I hope it is in the right place :^) Do it sound right to you folks?

2- The tractor definatly runs better, starts and idles really good and does good at mid throttle but not at the last 1/2 inch of the throttle lever. It surges (what I call "hunting"), the governor rod constantly moves back and forth. It also runs rough at high speed. If I let off of the clutch too fast it dies if in any gear except 1st.I did not look at the gov. yet, but it does have all new ign parts including wireing harness. I have the right screw in the condenser and points (Dell:^) ) and the dist cam and shaft are good, no slack sideways. Any ideas there? Gov? centrifigal advance? Thanks for any advice.

Since your tractor is hunting at full throttle, I'd try adjusting the high speed jet to see if that helps. Make sure that you have adequate fuel delivery to your rebuilt carb also and check the fuel tank vent to make sure it isn't clogged. Check your initial timing and make sure the centrifugal advance is working, too.

Sounds like you put the carb together right. I like to run a wire through the passages to make sure they are clear. The 2 small holes next to the nozzel you used a 3/8 wrench on in the bottom housing get clogged. Check it out. Also, you should take the governor apart and check the balls. The governor is not going to be your problem. But it is so easy to remove and check. Once the balls and or race wear it can wipe out the governor. And the ball bearings are cheap. Also, check the timming.

TheIdle&the high speed ajustable screws both have to be ajusted. The idle at idle with the thottle shaft against the stop. The high speed screw with the ribbed knob going from the front end of carb to the rear@a45 degree toward the main jet at the bottom of fuel bowl must be opened up so that you get max rpm at higher govenored speed. It sounds to me that has not been done. This high speed screw should pinched off to where the engine is about to lose rpm.If this is done right the tractor will do the hardest work on 1gal per hr.Also set the timing to where it pings just as it is about to stall. It can be loaded by putting in working gear with brakes on.BEST WISHES LEN
