Well, Dope, you are right about that. The Edsel was one of Ford's economy lines (and not so successful ones at that). However, Son Edsel was FMC President from 1919 to 1943, when he died of cancer. Henry Ford took over the presidency after his son died, until Henry II took over after discharge from the Navy in 1945.

Edsel the car did not live in market language until 1956, when Henry II announced the product line in honor of his father.

Colin, amateur wannabe historian and admirer of things Ford (though he wishes they hadn't bought Volvo!!!).

Henry"s grandson. If he had been his son, he would have been Henry Jr. Henry the second was Edsel"s son, but Edsel had died.

Edsel was Henry's son; Henry II was Edsel's son. Henry II was president of Ford between 1960 and 1979.

I think what most people call Ford-Ferguson tractors is the 1939-1947 Ford tractors with Ferguson hyd. system, but they were Ford tractors period.Harry Ferguson wanted his name on them, but as you know, that didn't happen.
Ford used the Ferguson hyd. system up to Sept. 1952.In the F/F trial, the court mandated that Ford would cease making tractors with the Ferguson hyd. system after Dec.31,1952 and that the 8n486-A ["long rocker pin"] could not be installed on production tractors after Sept.1949.The court also awarded Ferguson 9.25 million. The trial was about like the O.J.Simpson trial, with about 200 lawyers involved. So you can figure out who got all the money.BTW....I have a copy of all the "blueprints"[about 3000] that Ford used in the trial to prove he wasn't infringing on Ferguson's patents.
Henry Ford owned, was president, ceo and what ever of Ford Motors, until his grandson,Henry II,took over in 1945. don b
