Well, congratulations to JoeK(WI). He nailed it in response to my post yesterday. I snuck back over to the local steam and power show today and got another look at that weird little tractor. It turns out that the tractor is (was) a Shaw DoAll. I found "Shaw" cast into one of the front hubs and plugging that into the YT photo archives popped up this picture. That's the varmint. Heavily farmerized with hydraulics and a different engine, but that's it. The engine took a little more digging. I crawled around on it and noticed that the carb, distributor, and generator all said either made in France or Paris, France. I also found SIMCA cast into the block although I've never heard of that before. I scrounged around the net for a bit and found out that there was a French auto maker named Simca that was eventually absorbed by Peugeot. They built a "Flash" engine in the late 50's-early 60's that fits this description, although I couldn't find any pictures. It's apparently about 1.3L, 48 hp, and pretty reliable. THAT would have been intersting on this dinky little tractor! I know how to get ahold of the owner now, but I'm probably going to take a pass. It's complete and externally looks pretty good, but the plugs have been out for who knows how long with it sitting outside. Two of the plugs were so seized into the head that they broke leaving the electrode and threads in the head. The breather and other tin parts are pretty rusty, so I can only imagine what the cylinders look like and parts are probably tough to come by. Too bad. It could have been the centerpiece of a neat project. I took some pictures. I'll get them posted if I can find the camera cord. Thanks for all the suggestions!

And here's the engine. There are more pics in the photos section if you're interested.

When I was in high school (ancient history) there was a guy in our class that drove a Simca car. It was a little thing and he and I were both six feet tall. We filled that little thing up, no head room at all, not much leg room either. Them french folks musta built it for midgets!
