You are the winner!!!!
You posted: "Jerry/MT 07-25-2006 Your carb is a balanced pressure deigned carb. There is a small hole in the air horn casting near where the choke is at That's the balance tube that vents the fuel bowl to the air horn and allows the fuel/air ratio to be independent of the air cleaner restriction. Make sure that the balance passage is clear and your problem will be solved. You can also notch the gasket but you're better off to get the ballance tube open."

I really wanted to fix the original carb without any modifications for my own satisfaction but time was against me so... I drilled a very small hole in the top of the float bowl (in the upper half, same side as idle mixture screw, just about 1/4 inch fron the screw). It helped tremendously. My high idle screw now adjusts out at 2-3/4 turns and runs very well. I do thank you for your advice and all the others also :^)

Zane told you the VERY SAME THING in your first post last week, it take that long to sink in?

Yes, I saw where Zane had suggested cutting a portion of the gasket out in his post of 7/24/06. Jerry had also suggested the air balance tube was the problem in his reply of 7/22/06. I had already verified that the problem was in the venting of the fuel bowl by leaving the carb half bolts loose therefore allowing air to vent in. This was a "fix" of last resort .I am reasonably certain all passages ARE open. There were many options one could choose from to make it appear to run right, this was the one I chose. There is still something not right in the air/fuel system and I intend to find it later when time allows.
Perhaps in your spare time instead of posting sarcastic remarks with no name attached you would like to post a picture showing which is the balance tube opening. As you read, I gave credit to ALL who helped, were you upset that I did not include your name, whatever it is?

Thanks for telling us what you found.Glad you found a way to make the carb work better. However, now you have to really pay attention to your air cleaner restriction because you didn't open the original balance tube which vented the fuel bowl to the air horn. As the restriction in the aircleaner increases, the mixture will become richer. So pay close attention to you aircleaner especially in dusty conditions. When you get the chance, try to clear the original balance tube and solder the hole you drilled shut and you'll have the carb running the way it was designed.
Glad your running again!
