Well got the starter to turning over! Don't know how or what exactly did it, but it is working! Now the resistor off the switch from battery is smoking and getting extremely hot. Does anyone know why and what I need to do to fix it?

Tewell..... ..them resistors are suppost to be HOT, burnie-burnie. New ones even smoke because of the manufacturing process. NOT TO WORRY..... ...Dell

Help us out; I do not recall your problem & what you did to fix it. Is this an 8N, 6v or 12v, front or side distributor? Is the resistor new? (all the new one get hot & smoke the first time you use them) If this is a 12v conversion w/ a resistor in the circuit, please describe how it's wired.....and the 12v guru's will need to step in to help. I dropped out of tractor school before the 12v conversion class! :)
