I am looking to Bush Hog a lot of underbrush that consists of brush and trees that some reach 5 foot tall and the trunk of some maybe half again as big as your thumb. Can anyone tell me if my 9n can handle this much brush? The Bush Hog itself is really made for a much larger tractor. It is made of what I would estimate is 1/4 steal and not the light weight thin ones you normally see on this size tractor.

Thanks in advance,

9forever

I'd be more concerned with the weight of the hog. You can work around the power issues but too heavy a hog can get you into problems. The three point hitch in excellent condition is rated at about 750-800 lbs at some distance aft of the lift arms. If yours weighs more than that, you won't be able to lift it and when you try, the front end will be light or off the ground and steering will be marginal to non-existent. To keep your front end down you'll need to ballast it. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and get one that weighs no more than 600 pounds, or get a bigger tractor. Be safe.

Dunno about a 9N, but my 8N handles my 5' JD hob with ease. I constantly zip sapplings such as yours and even throw some 2" - 3" diameter cedars once in awhile with no problems.

as was stated if your Hog is any bigger than 5 ft your asking for trouble, as far as cutting that brush, if you can drive over it you will generally cut it, take a small swath, not a full bite, you may have to stop over it and let it chew it up, which is sometimes difficult with an N { thats why I dont use an N for hoggin,but thats me}

Brush hogs are measured in FEET.
4 ft ones are
easy on an 9N
5 ft ones are about a right match.
And 6 foot or bigger is way too much.
