I have been using my 49 front mount distibutor 8n non-stop for weeks now. I noticed yesterday when goign down hill I would start losing oil pressure. Drained oil when i brought her in last night. Missing a whole lot of oil. Burning it somewhere because I havenet been leaking any. Where would I be losing it? What are furture implications?

On my 52 sdie moutn distibutor 8n, I am ready to pull the lift cover and side hyrdraulic covers to see what is wrong. Which covers do I need to remove? I beleiev I need to remove the seat and the cover directly below it to see what is wrong with the lift. (draft and posiiton contorler stuck in the up posiiton). I also plan to pull the side cover (the cover wiht the hydraulic dip stick) to look and see what might be wrong in there (hydraulics do not work at all).

Am I looking in the right holes?

The dipstick cover is the inspection cover. If your levers are both stuck up.. pul the side cover and see if the control valve moves freely in the pump.

Only the darft/position controller is stuck up. The hytrol(?) position controller will move up and down but nothing happens.

I will pull the inspection cover and take a look.

Are you going plowing? If not, for all other applications the draft/position control lever is SUPPOSED to be "UP", so you have a "non-problem", except if you are going to plow.

Most likely, the shaft that attaches to the position control lever, and passes into the control area is rusted/stuck in the housing. Start by spraying some "loosen juice" in the area between the lever, and the lift cover casting.

Hey Goat farmer, where abouts in SC are you? If you don't mind me asking, have you found any local mechanics to do work on these old Fords that do a decent job and don't cost an arm and a leg? Thanks

Warren

I am near Anderson, S.C.

I have found some people that will do the work but it costs an arma and a leg.

I am doing all the work and figuring it out as I go.

Let me know if I can help with anything.

Goatfarmer, I contacted Don from the post above and they run the shop "Just 8 N's and more" or something like that in Shelby NC. I haven't gotten them to do the work yet, but they really know what they are talking about and their prices seemed really reasonable in my mind. You may want to consider them, or at least give them a call. Hope that helps maybe. I just got to the point I don't want to attempt some of the stuff myself and I would just rather send it to someone who knew what they were doing at this point.
