My tractor looks like a N9... but I find no numerals on the block where the serial # should be, and even more mysterious, there are no hydrolics or pto and the drawbar is fixed. The cover of final drive case lacks the lift arms & lacks the castings for upper attachment!!! (These have not simply been removed...)Were there 9N's without the Ferguson system? Could this have been a military tug or non-ag tractor?

Check for a transmission serial# on the top of the flange at the junction of the rear of the trans. and the front of the center rear housing, some 1940's had this and is close to the engine serial#, the key switch location will help date it also.

Post some pics of that bad boy. We love to see non standard ( or rare low production units.. especially ones that little documentation exists on. )

Why not add a link to a message so that everyone can find them without hunting for them.

Moto-tugs did not have a lift or hydraulics or PTO, and the lift cover is as you describe. They did have hydraulic brakes though. Also, years ago I saw brochures of a 1940 or 1941 9N that also was stripped down as you say and was used as a tow tractor. It was before the Moto-tug and looked like a stock tractor without the options. It did have some kind of heavy framework that went from front to back, and was a Ford produced model. Maybe that is what you have.

As far as the serial number, I would suspect a combine or other engine has been installed in the past.

Stripped-down production model 9N? How cool is that? My wheel/axle attach w rivits.. fits your date range of '40-41. Simplified casings are factory rather than modified/removed...Thanks for your help! peace, rick
