After purring for a year, it just quit! I have no spark when I take out a plug and check it on the block while pushing starter. I changed the condenser and checked everything for tighness and cleanness. Still nothing. How to test the coil??-All this was new not that long ago. The starter turns and turns but no spark or pop-no fire! I"m still mentally out there hauling firewood! Never a sputter before it quit! Bob

Make sure you are checking for spark with a good plug(new if in doubt.)

Start by checking for power to the primary terminal at the top of your front-mount distributor's coil.

Why would you blindly change the condensor? It is probably the component LEAST likely to fail in the ignition system.

Condensors do fail. They can let an engine run for a few minutes till it stalls. The engine will restart after a while and repeat the stall again.A Model A taught me this 45 years ago.I have had my tractor stop twice while running and cleaning the point surface will a knife blade got the engine running again.Points generate a lot of heat and oxides form that insulate the surfaces.A sudden stall with no skipping indicates point problems.Ignition switch would be the next suspect. If you use a tractor you should have a good understanding of basic ignition.

Was the key on when you checked for spark? I think that could be a dumb question...Not sure thou...I can push my start button and crank the engine...Is that normal? Wont start thou...Cranks only. Makes compression checks easy.

In fact the tractor was running along my woods road when it died-suddenly and with no gasp or pop or other warning. Bob in the Adirondacks

Bob,
There"s a pretty lengthy laundry list of things it COULD be. The most likely culprit is your points slipping closed. Could be the "hold "em where they should be" little screw is stripped.
