I can see that I will have to check through my electrical system before I get going again. I have to confess that I have been short cutting and clipping two wires together to start my tractor. I need to get a new switch. What is the deal on wiring the switch? I have basically three wires-what are they/
Also can I check to see if a charge is going to my coil by simply taking off the wire and touching it to the block to see a spark? As someone said, my starter can go, as it does, but perhaps nothing is going through the ignition system! Bob---Down to the 30's tonite-already here in August and my firewood is not up to the house from the woods.

6v or 12v? Lot's of places carry replacement switches (this board sells them), or you can get a marine toggle switch instead. Easy to install. A replacement switch will screw right in the same hole. Checking for spark by grounding the wire to the coil to the block doesn't tell you much; a multimeter is about $16 at Wallyworld & is a very useful tool. If the tractor has old & frayed wires, it might be time for a rewire job. In addition to the new wires, you will see a lot fewer problems over the next few years because you will be cleaning all the grounds as you replace the wiring harness. Easy job; 2-3 hours max, including beer breaks.
