I changed point/condensor/coil[+ side to points]-etc-than flipped my toggle switch on--and started cranking my 1950-6 volt + grd- side dist 8N.It was running just fine 2 weeks before.Of course it wouldn't fire at all and as I glanced down I saw I forgot to put back my shiny rotor.Well I did pop it back in and now it still won't fire.I took one of the connected plugs and laid it on the head to do the blue flame check-no sparky at all.Iv'e got a simple on/off toggle for an ignition switch and it's been fine for years. When I switch it on the amp gage shows discharge so I assume the switch is working--right?It acts just like the switch isn't in the ON Position. Can I by-pass some things to see what's bad?-PeP

The no.1 reason for no spark at all after changing points and condenser is inadvertently grounding the terminal where the coil wire connects to the condenser and the spring-loaded terminal for the points. Double check that the spring-loaded contact for the points lands on the insulated terminal, and neither the spring nor the wire from the coil or condenser is going to ground.

The no.2 reason may be a shorted condenser. Sometimes they are bad right out of the box. Replace the new condenser with the old one and see if that fixes it.

Pull the center wire off the cap and hold it close to the block and turn on the switch and turn it over. If you have saprk there the you probably have a bad cap/rotor. If you don't then run a hot wire from the battery to the coil and try for spark again. If you have spark then you have a problem with the switch or a wire going to the coil. If you still don't have spark you have a problem in the distubutor and you may have the points set wrong. On side mounts you set them a .025

My local 8N parts guy said to check the resistor inside[left side when sitting]on the dash? The only thing I see is my terminal board and V-Reg.he said to jump accross it? Maybe he meant the T-Board?---PeP

I'm not sure but I don't think the side mount had that resister and if it doesn't you can't jumper around it. But if you hot wire it from the battery to the coil even if its there you would be jumpering around it which is the thing I would do.

Yep-no resistor--I'll just go step by step checking where the voltage stops!-Thanks--PeP
