I believe from reading lots of posts to this forum that the original was 1 1/8", and 1 3/8" is now standard. Mine is pretty worn, here is my dumb question. It is 1 1/8" across from the bottom of the grooves on opposite sides, and 1 3/8" from the tops of the ridges on opposite sides. So does that make it a 1 3/8" or a 1 1/8" shaft? I spent some time yesterday cleaning out around it and the drawbar underneath it. old twine wrapped around it right tight up against where the shaft comes out, mud, clay, grease, grass, etc., packed in everywhere around where the drawbar attaches, etc., all painted over a real pretty shade of red. Now with all the crud cleaned off, mine looks a lot more like the pictures I see posted of other people's tractors. still leaking tranny/hydro fluid around where the shaft comes out of the tractor. I know from earlier questions that I can buy a PTO conversion kit and fix both the oil leak and the worn shaft for a little over $100, assuming nothing is bent or broken inside. The shaft seems to turn normally with no wobble or unusual noise. Thanks in advance for any information, suggestions, etc.

The 1-3/8 shaft assys are available anywhere tractor parts are sold for about $100. You just unbolt the old one and bolt in the new one. You will loose most of your gear oil. Some people say they keep the loss at a minimum by putting the front wheels in a ditch before removing it. I got mine at the New Holland dealer. TSC can also get them.

You measure the outside diameter at it's widest point.
