I notce no other pictures of 8N transmissions have a "bubble" like mine does. It is in the middle (left to right) of the cover and midway between the fill plug and the back edge of the cover. The cover stamping has an approximate 1.00" hole in it and there is a drawn steel cover approx. 2.00" diameter and .25" high over the 1.00" hole on the outside of the transmission cover. This 2" cover is welded in two places to the transmission cover. There is a "bag" hanging down about 1" from the 1" hole on the transmission side of the transnmission cover. This "bag" appears to be a fine mesh cloth and has an oily look to it. If this is not factory, I would assume someone decided the transmission, hydraulic system, differential needed to "breath" and therefore put in a breathing hole. On the down side, it is a place for easy water entry. Anybody else seen this?
