My original question on 8/13-probably is on pg 4 by now -resulted in a number of tests and still no spark from coil which I laid on the cyc head.I next ran a direct wire from the batt neg side to the neg post of the coil--again no spark from the coil lead to the dist.I put a volt meter in between the wire I just ran from the batt to the coil and got nothing? Shouldn't it read someting?I lighted out the ignition switch,it was OK--I bypassed the ign switch still nothing. What can I bypass or try next?--PeP

Check/bypass the insalator going in to the distubutor. I've seen them shorted out there and if so you will have no spark and that problem is a bear to find if you don't know about that being a problem. I've seen whole distubutors replaced just because of that 2 bit part being bad. Also check the side to side slop in the distubutor shaft because if there is any it will cause the points not to work no matter how you set them

O thought it was front mount so I was talking about the insulator where the concave screw for the springy thing goes through the breaker plate. Can these be found without buying the whole plate? Thanks

Where can you but that 2 bit part separately??My Dad had to make one from a milk Jug...Might be good to have the right thing on hand.

Well if the place I'm talking about is short you will not get any reading because its shorting the power right to ground.

Its where the wire goes in the side of the distubutor and on the inside hooks up to the points. Another way to say it is the wire from the coil goes to a small bolt on the side of the distubutor and theres an insulater there and thats the one I'm talking about. They go bad and the bolt shorts on to the distubutor and reall causes you to go crazy tring to figure out why you don't have spark

Late 8N, side-mount distributor, right???

With the igntion switch "ON", using a test light with one lead grounded to the chassis, the (-) terminal on the coil should have powere.

The (+) terminal on the coil should show power if the breaker points are open, no power if the breaker points are closed.

I forgot to check if my Points were open or closed--maybe that's why I don't have a completed circuit--sorry for all the dumb questions.--PeP

I haven't been able to record any voltage to the Minus side of the coil yet.--now I got to check my by-pass wires Ive clipped in sections--I'll just keep backing up to find where it's open?--PeP
