I just got my 1950 8N engine back from the machine shop, it looks great. I was wondering if it makes any difference which way a head gasket goes. Flat side to head or flat side to block. Gasket has little folds on one side. Just wondering any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, ray

This izz the way I look at it cuzz I never have read were it made a difference. The head izz sacrificial so the roufh side to it. The smooth side to the block. Its easer to resurface the head because of ware than the block so I always put the smooth side to the block. The head gasket will ware into the seal’in surface cuzz of expansion of the 2 different parts so they over time do rub and cause a ware pattern on the surface of what ever that mate to, so I for sure do not want my block to take on the pattern of the gasket so smooth side to block.

Look at it good, the two that I have replaced would only fit one way. Check all your holes good.
