I was adjusting the position of my bush hog to take it from pasture cutting height down to lawn cutting height using my chain stays and for whatever reason it was too much strain and busted my pump, i look at this shower of fluid coming from the crack where the top bolts to the main piece and its just going everywhere, probably a stream of about 3 to 4 feet away from tractor. I have taken the pump off once and redid the inerds and need to know if i should do this again or buy a whole new pump, not sure why this happened but now everytime i start the dern tractor i get a steady stream of fluid coming out. Does anyone have a pump they want to get rid of??
oh, i have a 53 NAA.

The hyd leak is most comomly comeing out from the gaskets. There are 2, one between the end cap & the main pump houseing. The other between the plate in the end cap with the check balls and springs under it. Make sure to clean all the old gasket material off both sides. Have had very good luck torqueing the bolts in a criss cross pattern. They are 3/8" grade one bolts, will stand 30 ft. lbs. which will hold well

wait a second, on a 53 naa, the hydraulic pump is bolted to the right rear corner of the engine, did it crack the rear end housing or what?

Ryan, I don't have a pump for you, but may have an explanation as to why the pump broke. If you have a piston pump and the oil pickup fitting in the block comes in contact with the back of the pump, there is a good chance the pump casting will crack where it bolts to the engine. Reason I know this is that this is what happened to my pump and it now has the scares of a weld job at the mounnting location and the back of the pump has been ground slightly to allow for clearance for the oil pickup connection.

its not leaking out where the pump connects to the block towards the rear of the motor. If you are looking at the side of the pump, you have at one end where it connects to the flywheel and at the other end is the cap where you can access the little springs and steel balls. I bought the repair kit for the pump which consisted of those springs, balls etc..... It has worked fine until that day. The only thing i can think of is that possibly one of the balls got stuck or somehow something on that end has failed. I will take out the pump one day this week and see if it has actually cracked somewhere. Funny thing is, is with all that fluid leaking out it still lifts and lowers just fine.
