Hello Ford tractor Fans:
It's Sat night at 8pm:

I have hunted for 2 days, locally, to buy a replacement rear wheel for an old 8N
I'm just 20 min south of Syracuse NY

The rim is a 28 inch

Each side is different.
The worst rim has an 28 by 11.4 tire The other side has an 28 by 12.2 tire

Both tires are very old and cracked.
However, they work flawlessly for my purpose.
One rim has opened up exposing a large sectoin of the tub Two day back I got a nail in the tire - bummer !

Anybody have a second hand rim in the upstate NY area ?

Anybody know of a tractor junk yard in the upstate NY area ? WHo would have the rear axle seal ?
The left side leaks like the devil !

hoping to get something immediately.
No local Ford dealers could help.
Two largew local tractor dealers don't have any "old Stuff" outback either Robbo
Little York, NY near Cortland.

I got a new rim and tire from my local Co-op and the price was reasonable. I also seem to remember that there was an online place in the OH-KY-TN area that had a decent price on a pair of rims & tires that included shipping. Good luck.

Check with "Parmenter's" in Odessa. They sell/fix the tires and may have rims or know where to get them up your way.
The New Holland Dealer in Woodhull had them back in june.
It used to be Simonds Ford, Don't remember the new name. I got one from them this june when I had the same problem.
Woodhull is about an hour and a half from Ithaca, so probly a bit more than 2 hours from you.
I'm in Painted Post.
And there's allways eBay. They're on there every day.
Expect to pay about $130 for a new rim.

If you have plenty of time and little or no cash, almost all tractor rims can be repaired. Like any other metal part, when rust is the problem it is like a cancer and you have to cut it all out or it will just come back. It is possible to cut a patch panel that will cover the rusted out section which is ususally right where the valve stem comes through the rim. Then drill a new hole for the valve stem on a good part of the rim. You just need to make sure you dont leave any sharp edges that will cut your new tube.

The mis-matched tires are still a problem, since they will cause the spider gears in the rear end to wear out a lot quicker.

Hope this helps, KL

Reality check.....your tires don't match, one tire needs repaired and one rim is junk..... bite the bullet and buy a pair of each..... why waste time nickel and diming yourself?

I would buy new rims if I were you.Try a local tire dealer that selle AG tires, the canwould be your best bet. Also I'd think about two matching size tires, 11.2x28. If brand name tires don't mean anyting to you there are some really good deals on no name brand tires that work just as good.

Robb,
The only problem would be getting the "old and cracked" tire off the rim without making it worse. A new rim is around $110 which you could get shipped to ya from about anywhere in the eastern parts of the country. TSC can get rims, although they normally have to order them. Check you states agricultural classifieds might find a used rim there. Be careful taking the tire off that old rubber will rip easy, don"task how I know.

Try your local TSC, fastest bet. Bye the time you screw around w/ junkyards and BS good intending neighbors - you will be very old and broke. I just completed restore of 1949 8N brought here from OK.
Sorry I don't have better advise. Roger

Rogerhello, where is Olivebridge as from Syracuse or Binghamton ?

As always money is a big issue with the reply who suggested to bite the bullet and get new rims and tires.
That cash is just not available at present.
The weld option would work, I have mig, tig, and Oxy/Acet. One always hopes that there ois somebody close that has just the part you need.
Thanks for all the Replies Robb.

New rims and tires are STILL cheaper than the rear end you WILL ruin running different sized/diameter tires. Your tractor, your call. My .02
