Well sorta...I finally hooked up the old bush hog I brought back from dads last month. I had bought it new for him back in 68-69 sometime. I decided to see how the gearbox ran out before I did any welding on the top. I hooked up to it, used the driveshaft he had on it. It fit the ORC ok and the u-joints looked ok so I made a few rounds in the field by the house. Not bad but the blades hang down some. Needs new blades, bolts and a new lower grease seal. I thought ok, not too bad for a cutter over 30 years old. I un hooked the N and pulled out of the way. Then I looked at the drive shaft a little closer. Square coupling on the gearbox, splined on the pto/orc. NO slipclutch, NO shear pin either. Looks like I am back to the drawing board on the shaft. I wonder how hard it is going to be to find a lower seal for the gearbox? This is a SMC MOWALL brand cutter made in Houston Tx back in the 60"s. This is not a have to fix thing, I just wanted it because I bought it for him, the first NEW implement he ever owned. Any advice here?

Slip clutches and shear pins are a sort of insurance policy but at this point the thing has worked just fine without em for 37 years and ain"t likely to ever see heavy work again.
Me, I"d seal it up, tighten it up, paint it up, and be proud of "Dad"s old cutter".

That"s just me though.

you can take the old seal to a local bearing supply co. and they will watch you up a seal
