I have a 39 9n that has a dead battery, when i jump start it it will sit and run at idle for about 2 minutes then stall fast. If I leave the jump on for a few minutes it after i start it it will run a little longer then i push the clutch in and it dies, will charging the battery fix this or could it be a bad generator?

Starts, 2 mins, dies. Wait a bit and then repeat cycle. Sounds very much like coil. Do some searches on here. Dell is our expert.

This type of result only happens if you are Jumping across a dead BATTERY. If you are 6 volts the jumping battery (direct method) "must" also be 6 volts. Most folks don't have spare 6V batteries and use a 12 Volt battery that is connected "only" to the starter (not to tractor's 6 volt battery)

If you are jumpering 6 Volts to 6 Volts you can ignore my comments, and charge your battery & fix the charging(Gen)system.

Your battery maybe so bad the genny can't keep up with the draw of amps. So yes a new battery may fix the problem but it may not if the genny system isn't working as it should be. You will need to start with the battery and then make sure the genny system is also working correctly or you will end up with the same problem in a few days

I would think that charging the battery would be a tempory help. The generator should put out enough to keep it running. Sounds like a bad generator or a least a bad voltage regulator.
