How difficult is it to remove the small Jubilee PTO shaft and install the larger standard size PTO shaft? Any advice?

if you have a ditch to nose the tractor down in, you wont even have to drain the hydraulics. RP

Not on an NAA tractor you can't. The hydraulic and differential sections are seperated and there is a hole for the PTO shaft to go through these two sections. It is not like a 9N/2N/8N tractor...

I did it, and I'm mechanically challenged. If you don't point the front end down a ditch, you'll have to drain the hydraulic fluid first, that's probably the biggest hassle, but it probably needs changing anyway, or you can re-use the old stuff. I believe you want to make sure the PTO is NOT engaged when you take out the old one. Take care to torque the bolts properly when you put it back.

Charlie - you did catch he said he had a Jubilee tractor didn't you? Parking nose down in a ditch will do nothing but combine your hydraulic and differnetial fluid into your hydraulic chamber. And, it won't matter if the PTO is engaged or not, as you will be sliding it out of the PTO clutch hub in either position.

I stand corrected. As an AARP member for almost 10 years I stand on my right to being forgetful.

Count 1 - pointing front end down a ditch - I had remembered others stating this, but probably missed the difference in how this works between the different models. I myself drained they hydraulic fluid when I did it.

Count 2 - PTO engaged or not. I believe I recall a post from somebody who reported encountering problems during this procedure, and they had their PTO engaged.

Also recall that many have had trouble removing the PTO shaft, usually when it was bent.
I myself found it an easy operation.

Heck - you don't have to be an AARP member to have that problem - my 16 year old son seems to be inflicted with this condition :-) But, you still have that right and I conceede.

The angling down in a ditch works great with the 9N/2N/8N tractors - but none after that. As far as the PTO engagement issue - it is just a sliding ring that connects the splines of the PTO shaft to the splines of the tranny output shaft - it matters not one bit when you slide the PTO shaft out - bent or not.

Hope this helps,
Dan

You need to drain the hydraulic and differential oils first. Then, it it is as easy as removing the four bolts on the PTO housing assembly and swapping it out with the new assembly. Refill the hydraulic and differential sections and you are done. It is a 30 minute job at worst.

Good luck,
Dan
