Last weekend I cut a litle with that rotary cutter I bought my dad back in "68. I cut just enough to see that the gearbox was ok and to just check out the whole machine. I found out quick it needed a lower seal and the deck was full of holes. I replaced the lower seal, repaired the drive shaft/joints and repaired the deck with some 1/4 inch plate I had around here. It is really to thick but it is all I had and will outlast me. I sharpened the blades, replaced the rear wheel bearings/shaft and today I mowed the neighbors field. Mowed in 1 st gear,2nd gear and 3rd gear just to get a feel for it. The machine is a six foot SMC Mowall built by Engler MFG out of Houston back in the 60s. It did ok. nothing really tough in those fields tho either. It is really a shade too big and heavy for the 8N but...I bought it 38 years ago for my dad before I went into the service and I wanted it! What is really good (or strange) is that today, 38 years after I bought it brand new, today is the first time I got to use this cutter! Dad used it for several years while I was gone and then bought several others and it just kinda got pushed aside. Having this tractor and cutter means something to me, most of you here know what I mean. It has been a good day for me. Next week I am going to paint the cutter, yellow w/red lettering, just like it used to be:^)

yep..them Old Mowers were Better Built than most of the crap they are attemptin' 2 fob off on us these days!! Use it in good health. I am considerin' resurrectin' my Father's old McClenny Cutter..it is Real Steel, as opposed to the cheap sheet metal that the "new one" is made of! Deck is still better than the new one, after all of these years! It was new back in the mid 60's. Yep, they weren't afraid to build them well back then! Good luck & enjoy ur mower!! I know exactly what u mean..I have much stuffs from my father..it would be the last stuffs I get rid of! CC
