I have a dumb question....how do you take the hood off of a 52 8N? I have removed the 4 bolts at the dash. I am trying to figure out what to do next. Does the hood hinge forward, or do I need to remove the 2 bolts at the bottom of the dog-legs?

The hood is still pretty solid, even with the 4 bolts removed. So, before I go prying, bending, and maybe breaking something I shouldn't I thought I would ask you folks first what the next steps would be.

Thnks for all the help!

Paul

Hey Thanks! I will take the front bolts off tomorrow and lift the hood off. I wasn't sure, so wanted to check with the experts.

I need to change the head gasket. That went on me the other day, hence the hood removal.

I will let you all know how that prcedure goes!

Thanks again for all the help.

Paul

The two bolts bottom front also capture the grill so when you start loostening them, make sure you have a hand on the grill or it may whack you on the noggin. BTDT

It is possible to lift it off yourself but much easier with a second person. Don"t forget to disconnect headlights, fuel line, and it is a good idea to drain the gas and remove the bail and glass bowl so it does not get broken.

You have to unbolt the front of the hood. Trying to hinge it on the front bolts would tear the radiator neck off.

I took mine off yesterday - 4 bolts on the dash and 2 on the bottom of the doglegs - grill already off. Unhook gas line @ carb and good to go - I drained gas tank first and lifted the hood by myself with the deer hanging rope winch (4 pulleys) with a rope binder around the hood. Came up and off real easy. Steering wheel did not interfere.

Radiator neck usually won't let it hinge - and yes take radiator cap off and disconnect light wiring (if any) as well.

I don't know if it hinges or not but I took mine off this eve and removed the two bolts at the bottom of the front cheeks and the wife helped me hoist it right off.

By the way, the fuel line and wires to the lights shold be disconnected also.
