I'm rebuilding my 8N. I want non oily brakes!!! At first I thought I'd replace the seals near the brake drum then found the trumpets have an inner seal. I bought them already and have not taken the trumpets off. Is it a difficult seal to replace?

I am doing this job right now on my Jubilee. The $45 slide hammer puller from JC Whitney works beautifully. Be sure to use a seal driver when driving the seal in to keep it nice and straight.

Rick....you don't need to remove the axle trumpet to replace the inter seal.If you have things torn down to do the outside seal, you are almost there.Remove the dust shield from the trumpet, take a big screwdriver and pry the seal out of the trumpet.Replace the seal[8n4233] and then put everything back together. don b

Wow! Thanks! I didn"t even look. The expoded view in my service manual has so itmes I guess I thought it would be right at the junction of the wide mouth of the trumpet and differential housing. All I"ve got left is the trumpet to the tranny. Everything else is getting cleaned, rebuilt and repainted. I am having trouble getting my lower right lift arm nut off. THe bolt actually spins in the housing. I might try to weld a bolt on the end of the bolt so that I can hold it still.

Thanks for the info. I"ll look at her tonight.

RICK
