Gauge question

The new amp and oil gauges I ordered for the 8N arrived today. All I've had time to do is look at them but that raises a question maybe somebody can answer. Each gauge has a black plastic "post" sticking out of the back. The old gauges didn't have this. If I pull the cap off the post there's a terminal. I'll guess this might be a power connection if the gauge has a light. On each the post also turns. The fact that there's no explanation included in the packaging makes me think everyone else must know the answer but, can someone explain the posts. Thanks.

Sounds like they are for gauge lights.
You should see a place to install a light bulb when you pull off the cap. The terminal on the back sounds like it is for the hot connection to the gauge lights.
