A couple of years ago I bought a Brinkmann "stainless steel" grill from Lowes for around $400.00. Maybe more. That was a pretty big step for me.

I found out the hard way that it's only clad in stainless. The rest is regular sheetmetal which has completely rusted out. Even the guaranteed for ten years cast iron burners are shot.

At any rate I'm now looking at a Jenn Air all stainless steel grill made for Lowes only. Well the burners are cast bronze. But it's twice the price. I checked on the internet and found that the Jenn Air is made in China for Lowes and the only thing about it that's Jenn Air is the name plate. Jenn Air doesn't guarantee any parts or sell them. Doesn't wantanything to do with it.

Looks like most every high end grill is made in the same place. Has anyone had any experience with the Jenn Air grill by any chance? Any recommendations? Thanks.

Check (www.hollandgrill.com). These are promoted highly in my area although I don"t own one, I checked the site out and knew a guy some time back who had one that liked it, of course his was new that season. They do have a lifetime burner warranty. I heard they were expensive, but the good ones always are.

I agree with the comments on the Weber Genesis B. I hated gas grills until I bought this one. It makes grilling fun, and I havent had a problem for the first 4 years.

I've had a Weber gas grill, Genesis B, I believe, for about 6 years now. It sits outside all of the time, and we use it year-round, at least once a week.

Other than the occasional cleaning (read that once a year), I've only had to replace the electronic ignition on it, and then when it went out the second time, I just use matches.

The burner is still in good shape. I've wire-brushed it 3-4 times to get the rust off and open up the holes. The burner is protected from the cooking grease by what they call flavorizer bars, so the burner stays clean and lasts longer.

It cooks great, very little flare-up. Nothing beats charcoal, but this come pretty close.

I will buy another one when the time comes. I think I paid somewhere around $450.00 for it.

Brad

No experience wi Jennaire, but have a old Char-Broil gas grill made of all cast aluminum. Its about 15 to 18 years old, sits outside 24/7 in Alabama, yes it is humid here too, I've replaced the burners once or twice (cast iron) and the rack that you put the meat on once (I used 3/16 304 stainless expanded metal) It is ugley but it cooks great. Cost about $125.00 back then-it's a smaller one-looks like it'll go another 10 years.

not the answer you want... in reply to hvw, 09-04-2006 08:09:23
Most big stainlessunits are built for looks, not function. A good simple Weber kettle will usually cook circles around those big semi-stainless do-alls.
Having said that about "simple"... I have a big BBQ grill made from an old hinged "munitions" container, built by an employee of one of the now closed army bases. I have it set up where I can use propane or charcoal. It is almost 5 ft long, almost 2 ft wide, has wheels on one end and easily moved around. It cooks great!!!!
If you want looks, want to impress your neighbors with what sits on your deck, buy you one of those high $ stainless grills that you replace when wore out. If you want function, want to have the freinds and neighbors admiring your BBQ skills and taste, have you one built that will actually grill, smoke, and last a lifetime.

Nah, that's sort of the answer I was expecting. Nobody to impress around here anyway. I used to buy the grills from walmart which I expected to replace fairly often. It's just a little disappointing to me the way these "high end" grills perform.

I used to buy those wallyworld propane grills and had to replace the burners almost every year. The humidity here in the south combined with the heat and ash from cooking just eats them up. I guess I came off a little samrta$$ with my reply but didn"t mean too. I was speaking from my own experiances mostly. Took me years to figure out what works best for me. Good luck with your BBQ!
