The only way I can start(cold motor) my 1950 8N is to remove a spark plug and pour in a little fuel. After it starts I let it warm up, then if I shut it off, it will start fine (hot motor). I have redone the carb, thinking that might help. But NO. Is this a sign of poor fuel suction, intake gasket problem, or anything else??
Help and thanks

Doug..... ..having to "prime" yer engine with gas down a sparkie hole is sure sign of poor fuel suction. Poor suction is sign of LOW COMPRESSION. Low compression is usually a sign of WORN-OUT ENGINE. But could also be sign of "sticky-rings" that gitt loose after engine warm-up. Sticky rings are also sign of worn engine but could also caused by old dirty oil.

While a dose of Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) or autotranny oil down the all the sparkie holes is frequently used to un-stick sticky rings (follow MMO instructions) MORE BETTER you do the dreaded compression test. Ford specs: 90psi min (dry). Do a dry then wet test to evaluate the wear of the engine rings and valves. Iff'n you don't understand compression testing, theres many instructions in the "archives" or read the compression gauge instruction booklet..... ....Dell

I would suspect the spring that holds the 'flapper' on the choke plate is broken. This would cause you not to be able to get a full/complete choke on it at startup.
