Rob,
Do you have any threads left? Are they just crossed? If you have threads showing, try a dremel tool with a small metal cutting disc to grind out the damaged metal out of the thread valley (pitch). Use a low speed and go slow checking your work. You can shape the dremel disc to a sharp edge to get inside the depth of the pitch without taking a lot of the thread sidewall out. It may take more than 1 disc, several come in a pack and can be used for other tasks on these tractors. The worst part of this is working underneath the tractor. WEAR saftey goggles . Pack some shop rags inside the oil pan to keep grit out. I use this dremel procedure to salvage damaged stainless steel pumps worth thousands of dollars. A die grinder with the dremel disc will also work if you do not have access to a dremel. Good luck. jackie

You might want to consider this item on eBay:

2" Pipe Tap

It's also possible that drain hole is a 2 - 11-1/2 NPT pipe thread. There's only about 4-5 full threads on the plug I measured. With that few threads in engagement they're darn near interchangeable. If you stick to the section of the tap that has the 2" major diameter you probably could cut fresh threads in a blank hole that would be so close to 2-12 you couldn't tell the difference when you screwed in that plug. And if all you've got is some dinged threads that tap would probably serve very well as a thread chaser.

I believe that plug is 2-12 UNF. I made an adapter for that hole with that thread pitch and it seems to work fine. If you don't mind my asking what do you have in mind? Replacement plugs are readily available.

Good luck finding a tap for under $150. Maybe eBay if you're lucky. That kind of big stuff often goes for $10-$20.
