I have been working for a week to take it out using PB,l heat and everything else I can think of. Looks like it may never been taken out. Would like it to be removable to be able to troubleshoot fuel problems. I note it is not simpley a plug in the bottom of the bowl so I wonder how dangerous a track I would be headed down if I decide to drill it out? Anybody else try it?

Carb is off and bowl is separated. The plug is rounded off but still sticks up about 1/8". I have had it in a vise and still can'[t buge it. I will try the MIG welded nut tomorrow and let you know. THANKS!!

popbreed, why is it so hard to get out, is it rounded off or what? mine was rounded off, so i took a small angle grinder with a thin wheel and cut a screwdriver slot in the middle of the nut. used the biggest screwdriver i could find and got it out. RP

Pop..

Is the carb off the tractor? If not, I think that I would take it off and carefully separate the lower section (bowl) from the upper section. Unscrew your main metering needle that goes up at about a 45 deg angle first so that it does not get bent. Is there any metal from the old drain plug still above the bowl casting, when you turn the bowl upside down? If so, I would mig weld a 3/8" or 1/2" nut to the projecting portion of the plug. Of course the welding will turn the plug red hot and expand the plug a bit in the casting, and then as the plug metal cools it shrinks to a slightly smaller size than it was originally. This process will break the "deep bonds of time" and the plug should be able to be unscrewed. Give it some more PB as it is cooling...sort of as insurance that it comes loose. As you look inside of the bowl at the plug, you should see that it is just flat and nothing fancy in any way. I believe that it is standard 1/8" pipe thread, which is pretty fine thread, and tapered slightly.

Good Luck!
