I can't get the dang starter back in. I have removed the pet-cok from the block to give more room to no avail. What is the secret - I've held my mouth in every position immaginable and still no luck.
Thanks!

Part timer, time to go full time, do like Bruce said take a grinder and grind the starter hole opening at about 2:00 if it was a clock face and make the hole egg shaped and it will make this installation and any further starter work later much easier and ye will appreciate it the nest time ye have to remove it. There is one site that has a picture of the ground hole but this site won't let me tell the name of it. It won't post it's name.

Try removing both bolts in the oil filter canister; no need to remove the canister, because the extra 1/2 in of play helps. Keep the starter body as close to the block as you can; removing the petcock was a wise move. Are you using the new bendix? The new style bendix is a bit bigger; get your grinder out & grind out the hole in the bell housing at the 2 o'clock position. Don't grind out the bolt hole!
