Outboard gas in 8N?

The weathermen screwed up the forcast on Ernesto. Over our section of the Chesapeake it combined with a high pressure system and gave us UNFORCASTED winds of 80-100 mph. in stead of the 35kts forcasted.

My neighbor lost $350K of boats while I lost my two skiffs. We all lost much of our docks and roofs. The pic is of my neighbor's brand new 28' Sea Fox on the rocks and in the background is their 34' Grady White on the way to the rocks.

I have about 42 gallons of fresh gas for my outboard motors. It is mixed with high quality omc outboard oil at the recommended dilution. Can I use this gas in the 8N without major problems?

The poor 8N is once again going to be moving a couple of hundred tons of large rock to repair damage to the rip-rap. Sure would be nice to be able to use up the gas.

Thanks for any responses!

Dal

I have ran it in my NAA. The tractor ran fine but the oil swells up the leather packing in the fuel bowl shut off valve and makes the knob impossible to turn without using a pair of channelock pliers. I have a New Holland fuel bowl, some of the aftermarket ones have rubber packing so you might not have this problem.

Thanks for all the replies! I just dumped some in the tank and will mix approx 50/50.

I ready to take another tank and dump it on my legs and set them on fire. I dragged some busted up dock and groin pieces to the back field to try to salvage some lumber. Do you know the word CHIGGERS? Note that that was capitalized! I hate those bugs!

Bruce, I'm located in Southern Maryland, just south of the Patuxent River and about 16 miles north of the Potomac River. We were just recovering from Isabel.....

Chiggers in reply to Popster, 09-09-2006 21:58:18
We have chiggers, also known as redbugs. What we do is go to the drug store and get some Flowers of Sulfur, and sprinkle it in our shoes. It seems to repel them nicely. Also get some New Skin. Dab a bit over each bite and it seals the opening and smothers them (they burrow into the skin). Clear nail polish works almost as well.

My vet told me his grandmother used to make the kids take a bath with Clorox added to the water when they were exposed to chiggers. I looked it up and it turns out their toxin is a long chain molecule that is broken by the acid. I've found that if I get them early enough, spraying myself with vinegar helps and isn't as potentially dangerous as the bleach. Let me know if your gasoline and flame method works. I'd be willing to try just about anything.

Never hurt it. I would dilute it a little. I have done that. In fact when I break in a new rebuild I mix a little oil with the fuel. ray

It'll run fine, I do it EVERY fall. If the smoke bothers you, just mix in more gas to thin out the oil mix.
Seems i allways end the year with a full tank in the boat...

Northern Neck in reply to Bruce (VA), 09-09-2006 17:22:48
I am on the Dreaded Northern Neck. Yep, this storm did a hella lotta damage! We were outta power about 2 days, too. And The (#*@&#^ VERIZON phones were out, as well. No biggie on da power, (I have a genset), but am forced to rely on the phone lines 4 the internet. I suffered relatively minor damage, mostly tree-related. Also blew over my nice new Portable Carport, scratching the paint on my nice 1967 Pontiac Convertible. A few weeks of cleanup 4 d trees & re-paintin' da convert will see me over this storm. (Convert needed re-painting anyway, as it is RED, which is a pig magnet, heheh) Across da crick, dem Yuppies in S** H** had a bunch of boats piled up, docks smashed, shingles/roofs blowed off their yuppie boat-houses, etc. A real Bummer 4 the folks that intended to use their boats 4 Labour Day, heheh! Fortunately, I had NO Boats in da water, hehehe. So, I consider myself lucky 2 have relatively small amount of damage. H*l*, I still hadn't finished gettin' stuffs cleaned up from da previous storm!

I bought a skid tank With bout 250 gal of 50 to 1 premix at a auction where a marina went bankrupt. A half full 500 gal skid tank for $98.00 with an electric pump and meter on it. The IH Cub, Snapper mower, 4 stroke golf cart, old chevy truck, newer S-10,651 Ford tractor, chain saws, weed eaters, ever thin but the deisels got nothing else till it was gone.
No problems. None.

Still don't think I'm smart enough to argue with Dell tho.

Popster..... ...even iff'n its good and fresh, thats probably too much oil in the gas, I'd mixer 50/50 with fresh plain gas and go for it. I've used mixed outboard fuel even in my 1969 BMW 2002, but never as sole source of fuel..... ...Dell

Will not hurt it any, but if you have trouble with fouling plugs because some of the old tractors do your problem will be a lot worse. You could always remix it with a 50/50 mix of gas and that would slow the fouling even more.

Might smoke a little but won't hurt a thing.
Use it up, sounds like you won't be boating for a while.

I have run premix from my snowmobiles in the tractors without any problems. that was a 50:1 ratio .
