Ron..... ...it doesn't matter. Clippie is supposed to "snap" into the slot on end of the float valve needle and the open-ended "L" is "caught" by the sheetmetal float arm. Since the clippie rotates around the groove in the float valve and iff'n it didn't, the float valve would also rotate inside the float seat, it just doesn't matter which side of the sheetmetal arm the open "L" part of the clippy slips over.

Theory is when the float drops due to gasoline being sucked outta the float chamber, the float will PULL the pointed float valve pin outta the float valve seat.

My most recent carb kit, the float valve doesn't even have the clippy; just a smooth radius to rest on the sheetmetal float arm.

Just be certain that you really get a good tight float valve seated with gasket. Otherwize the gravity fed gasoline will NOT SHUTOFF with the float and you will have leaking and flooding carb problems..... ....HTH, Dell
