I'm about to rebuild the carb on my 50 8N. I really don't like the idea of paying $20+ for a gallon of carb cleaner. Other than carb cleaner I've heard about using brake fluid, mineral spirits, and EVEN Pine Sol cleaner. So I was wondering what you all use to soak your carbs???

I have the Good stuff the good stuff you kin not buy enny more but sumtimes it will not clean one that has set and the fuel has turned to tar. I then throw it in sum old brake fluid wait a week and it has always cleaned'em. If I have the time I as soon clean'em in brake fluid as enny thang. I always clean my sediment bowls and fuel shut off valves in brake fluid, it does not mess the seal up for the shut off valve and comes out clean as new. Hose off with water

If you have a small hot plate put the carb in a pan of water and boil it outdoors for about 1/2 hour so as not to stink up the kitchen. Good second choice is a can ot two of 99 cent carb cleaner. Lazy (but also a good way) is the $10+ carb soaker

I pay the $20 or so to get the good stuff. Nice thing is as long as the can is sealed good it will last years. I use beemans and I start out with the gallion bucket that has a basket then just buy the gallion refills when I need more.

I don't soak mine, just use the spray Berrymans and compressed air..sometimes a small wire for poking out passages.. I guess one thats been sitting forever, my way may not work but for running carbs that just need cleaned and kitted,it works just fine..

Rust is good. Makes it look authentic. ;Þ
