looking at my 9N tractor, just now noticed on the front side of the rear axle houseing on the draft control side, is a number stamped with raised letters.
It says 2N along with 5-9-41
Could this be a date of some sort or just a coincidence??
Thank you for any reply

I cant make out all the numbers, I thought I had it once, but the more I look they seem to be harder to read with these old eyes even with a magnifiying glass. I got what I belive to be was 9N 300-- off the engine block and I havent figured out how best to make it clearer to be definate tho. But if Im correct, I think its a 41 model maybe??? I dont know and am trying to figure it out. That is why I asked about that number on the rear axle. Thank you both for your help
Tried sandpaper and a pencil but that didnt work too swift.Maybe a die grinder with a brush?

If you are reading those #s right that would make it a 40 9N. Put some paint stripper on it and try the magnifiying glass again, kiddy ones with a built in light work great..

Have you checked your serial number as to what year your tractor is?? If you do you might find your 9N is really a 2N. Or some one could have replaced a few parts and you have parts of a 2N and 9N to make one whole tractor. Or that could also be the correct number for that part. But the 5-9-41 is probably the cast date for that part either way

That is the date that part was cast and gives a good indication of the general timeframe your tractor was built.
