I just rebuilt my 241b carb on my 9n and when I put it back together it still ran rough. I took it apart again and I noticed on careful inspection that the idle mixture screw had a wear mark on the needle. A little groove around the needle bearly diserable. Would that be the problem.

Also California won"t see carb dip so I cleaned it with break clean and that foam crap carb cleaner. Not like dip..... .but what am I to do?

HELP ME IF YOU CAN""""" ""

BOB..... ...I"ll check the spark..... ..but I think its an air leak because as I said before..I can screw the idle mixture screw all the way to seat and it still runs..... .that wouldn"t be ignition..... .....
But I can"t figure out where it would be leaking.

I didn"t replace the accelerator lingage because I didn"t see a visable problem. Could that be leaking.

My soninlaw told me to put it back together and on the tractor and then spray some carb clean on it while its running to see if it changes running at all to find the leak..... ...HELP.

Hey Dell..... Right now I work for a beef farmer whose large walk-in freezer's evaporator blew. For insurance purposes, I completely remanufactured the evaporator less than 5 yrs. ago. I even assigned a new serial number to it for depreciation purposes. \\Gee I was lucky this time again. I was able to completely remanufacture the coil again. Guess, though, this time I must also change the good fan motor so that the equipment complies with the current UL codes. I am awaiting a claims rep. from Nationwide. Since they (Nationwide) refused to cover some equipment for another farmer last year when their "forensic expert) ruled the equipment failed due to FATIGUE, I wonder if'N this new equipment will be ruled on the same. Same old problem....lightning damage thru the electrical controls and timers.

Too bad. REMEMBER: make sure your remanfactured parts carry some certificate like "This equipment (part) complies with the current UL, EPA, etc. Especially them stogies that are home-made. Note on the box : Ladies of childbearing age SHOULD NOT smoke our product.

Have a good week-end...Sir.

Thanks for the space.

Well, not only am I "self-insured" for products liability, but I even have a 5 yr. warranty that reads..... I ain't responsible fer Nutt'N. Only the vendors whose products that I use are responsible for "their product". I am always careful to use vendors that are also "self-insured".

For me, itis only a simple thing of replaceing some burned copper which caused the ref. leak. What caused the burned copper? Act of GOD.

Now I can list the evaporator as "remanufactered and include our own serial number". Good for new depreciation schedule.

Later. Let you know how it turns out. I simply give my bill to the farmer and let him turn it in. Hopefully he will get someth'N.

Sorta like putt'N a remanufactured engine in your tractor. Warranty only applies to remanufacturer. Does tractor become more valuable? Probably only to the OWNER.

Give a good paint thinner a try and or minrial sprits. Brake cleaner works but not as well as a good carb cleaner. Also if you got a good kit the idle jet should be new in the kit, but if you got a cheap kit then it may not be there. But as the other guy says its probably not your problem but you probably still have some junk in the carb main jet area

i really.. really doubt that mark on the idle mix needle made it run ruf. At anything over the mid-hundred rpm range, the engine is on the main needle anyway.. say 500-600and up.. etc.. )

The MS carb adjusts air supply to the idle circuit ,not fuel.Turning inward richens idle mix.Dufus is the fellow who puts grooves in idle and high speed needles.Dufus tapes hydraulic brake lines and twists the cam shaft boss off the crank case of Briggs and Stratton engines with vise grips when trying to change the oil.Dufus likes to rebuild/ break carberators and distributors on tractors.

BE NICE, guys!

I'm more of an "ignition guy", but I do know how to clean every darned hidden passage in these carbs, and put them back together so they don't leak, but I'm NOT the best at explaining that to others, nor do I claim to be a "guru", with a magic system for setting the mixture screws.

That being said, the little ring around the idle mixture screw, from seating it too hard, is NOT likely causing your problem.

A little more information on "running rough" would be helpful... the problem COULD be as simple as a spark plug that's fouled from running to rich BEFORE you rebuilt the carb, or other ignition problems, to a stuck or burned valve.

I would try shorting out the plugs one at a time, with an INSULATED screwdriver, to see if the miss is confined to one cylinder, or simply remove the spark plugs and "read" them, to see if a problem can be narrowed down to one cylinder, and follow up with a compression check.
