does any body know any way to quieten down the grind in these old tractor tranny and rears. RP

RP..... ..yep, replace yer bearings. Simple, eh?

Check yer hydro-tranny oil level. 90wt gearoil will be quieter than 60wt M2C-134D.

Howsomevers, SQUARE-CUT GEARS are inherently noisy.

You indicate that your tractor is a 9N from your signature. In 1942, Ford changed the tranny front main gear from spur-gear to helical gears for quieter and stronger operation. They are RETROFIT able p/n: 2N-7017A (main-shaft) and 2N-7113A (counter-shaft) For service, use the helical gears. Trannys with helix gears will have HX stamped on the tranny case flange. I have NO KNOWLEDGE wheather the helix gear parts are still available..... ...Dell
