Any ideas as to why my clutch on the old 9n won't release all the time? I have to pump it in order to get it to release. Anything other than a complete clutch replacement will fix it?

Thanks

I used the method of spraying brake cleaner into the starter hole as Dell mentioned and haven't had my clutch stick in over a year now.

arctodus..... ...what Bob said..... .go on a drive and "SLIP" yer clutch abunch to "polish" enny rust on the clutch-plate and flywheel.

The sliding spline of the clutch-plate should be squeeky clean. Sometimes it gitts greesed and sticky. Heres a sometimes helpful techinque. (beats doing the dreaded tractor split) Take a full can of brake-cleaner and bent the straw into a "U" configuration. Remove yer starter motor (give the starter bendix a wash-out while its handy) and squirt yer clutch spline area as best you can. Use lotta squirt and letter drain out the cotterkey holes. Don't worry iff'n yer plastic straw drops off, it won't hurt 'nuttin'..... ..Dell

It's due to corrosion and oil leaks. An easy fix is to place a small wooden block between the petal and stop when ever it is parked and not running.
