My generator has a adjustment on it that you can turn with a screw driver, the markings say only HI/LOW. Can any one tellme what this is for?

the 2N I grew up on had that set up - turn it down for normal and up if you had to go to shift work and work into the night with the lights.

It is stil doing fine today.

I also have one of these tractors with the high-low screw. I didn't want to convert to 12 volts because I wanted to keep things original but I wanted a voltage regulator. On this great sight I found out about a company called "fun projects" that makes a voltage regulator yes for the 1 wire generator. I bought one about 2 years ago and it still works great. If you want to know more about it just post back. B. Jones North Central Missouri

Robert..... ..that is the 1-wire 11-amp 3rd-brush MANUAL charge adjust. Your 6-volt generator does NOT have an automatic charge adjust. The 2-terminal roundcan cutt-outt relay on yer steering column under yer battery tray is NOT a voltage regulator. YOU ARE ITT!!!Adjust for about 3-amps + charge on your dashboard AMP-METER at about 1/2 throttle. Simple, eh? ..... .respectfully, Dell

Thanks Dell and every one else, that"s great info. With the articles I"ve read and input here I think I have a good understanding now.

Sean, yours sounds like a three brush with external ground.(F=Field A=Armature and a external ground.) The adjustment screw I believe changes the output brush (armature) position, which changes the output current. (+)=more current (-)=less current. If you have headlights on or other loads you need to increase current output by adjusting the screw to (+) for more charge output. If you have headlights off or no load you need to decrease current output by adjusting the screw to (-) for less charge output.
This is needed so not to burn out the generator. This is my understanding of this system, if I"m wrong please correct me asap. thanks again erveryone
