Clutch problem update

Well I found some worn linkage parts,(fixed) Finally got the pedal to adjust and now the clutch is sticking, can't get the thing back in gear(drove it around about 20 min.)I am going to replace the pressure plate and have the flywheel resurfaced.....(Split tractor again and clutch is dry)....My flywheel has 3 steps in it. One step is where the pressure plate mounts(outer ring), Step two is where the clutch disc wears, and a small area inside the clutch wear area.(undercut),Now the question, Is there suppose to be a difference where the pressure plate mounts and where the clutch disc wears?

Doesn't sound right to me — I'd replace the flywheel. At least go down to New Holland or ? and look at a new one.
Just my opinion.

There was a guy on the Farmall board who claimed that a messed-up(scored, etc) flywheel didn't make any difference in clutch performance. I disagree. I think the more consistent friction surface you can provide to the mating surfaces the better. My opinion is that while you have the thing split, you might as well renew everything, including replacing the pilot bearing and resurfacing or replacing the flywheel and ring gear if needed. I think you are finding out that splitting the tractor several times is not fun.

If I understand the question correctly the answere is no. The friction surface and the mounting surface should be on the same plane. ray

All three steps are on the friction surface. The mounting surface is flat.

I can answer your question about the surfaces, however be aware that the FO-4 manual para 44 has a minimum thickness you should not surface below.

FO-4 "The clutch friction surface of the flywheel may be resufaced if it is scored or groved, providing the thickness of the flywheel, measured between friction surface and the mounting flange surface is not reduced to less than 0.855 inch (21.7mm)."

Back to your question. It would seem to me the fiction surface and the pressure plate mounting surface should be the same height. If not, then the pressure plate effectiveness (prevent slipage) as the friction disk wears thinner will occur sooner than normal.

My "opinion", not based on a Dell, Claus, or other expert "fact" statement.
