I am getting no spark to the plugs. I have a 1949 8n. I took distributor apart, but how do I check the points or coil?

I had a nightmare of a time once with my points. I replaced them and I liked to have never got the tractor to run. Come to find out I had a bad set of points and brass grommet where it hold them together was defective. Only after I put a meter to my distributer and points I was able find that they were grounded out. I guess the points came from China.

By 'took the distributor apart' do you mean you took it off the tractor? You check the points by seeing if they are burned, pitted or corroded & set them w/ a feeler guage at .015 on the high lobe of the cam. Pull the pigtail on the bottom of the coil & put it back together. Make sure the condenser wire is not grounded to the distrbutor base. Firing order is 1-2-4-3, CCW. If it does not start, check for a bright blue spark at the plugs by pulling one & grounding it to the block. Get back on the board, tell us what you did, and you will get a lot of help getting it running.
