Does anybody have the wiring layout of a 12volt system on a 51 8n?

Scroll down on this page & look at the post from Bob, re 8N ammeter. It's the OEM wiring diagram. Because there are probably 10 ways to correctly wire a 12v conversion, finding the diagram for your tractor is going to be difficult. My suggestion is that you describe what is on the tractor (alternator type, coil type, resistors, etc) and let the real 12v guru's on this board jump in with a correct diagram for the equipment you have. I did not take the 12v class in N school, as all three of mine are 6v.
