lower link pin leak

Hi! I am new to posting on the forum, although I have been "tuning in" for a long time and utilizing all the great info. It's such a great resource! The reason for the 5N in my name is that I have a 2N with an 8N engine block. I figure that averages out to be a 5N! Just having a little fun with it.

Anyway, I have a project coming up in a couple weeks and am in need of some advice. Both sides lower links leak badly and it's time to do something about it. I have already purchased new arms because the ball sockets are very badly wobbled out. Also, I fear that the pins themselves may be worn, but because they both spin freely in their current condition, I can't get the arm off to check. My thought is that maybe I should buy new pins to have on hand. So my questions are:

Do these pins actually wear out, or are the odds with me that they are probably in good condition?

If I do need replacements, are all pins on the N's the same? (The ones that I have found online usually confirm that they fit an 8N, but very few references to the 2N?

Finally, does the trumpet require a gasket, or is a sealent sufficient? I'm confident it would seal just fine, but my concern would be tolerances.

I appreciate any feedback, and look forward to being a more active member of this forum!

Yes they do wear, If bad enough the centers wear the most and you can place a strait edge along the side of one for a quick check. I replaced them on both my 2n and 48.5 n

The pins for the 9N and 2N are the same but the one for the 8Ns are tapered.

You might want to pull the pins first as Zane sez before you buy the new ones. Seems to me that they are like $25 or so each. I've never pulled them out, but a friend had one leaking & after buying the new pin, discovered the old one just needed to be tightend up. As a new N owner, you might find this info helpful as well:

The 8N pins are all the same.

You will have to pull the left hand axle housing and the differential which will just about fall out after the left side is removed. Just pull it off the right axle stub. It's heavy so don't loose a finger in the process.

I personally would use just silicone gasket maker for the trumpet housing. There is a slight issue with the axle preload but with an old tractor that no new bearing have been installed in the small amount of clearance taken out will not be noticable. Probably even be better since it will tend to take up for normal wear of the bearings.

I have the same problem, but only on the right side. The pin rotates easily and it leaks badly. Can I just pull the right side trumpet? I am reading the FO-4 book, but don't see any torque spec for the pin either, is there one?

Zane..... you say "The 8N pins are all the same."I will agree up to a point. The pins that are available from most places are the NCA 563.The configuration is a little diff for the 8n563 we sell. The NCA 563 pin will work fine on the 8ns tho. don b
