I have a Ford 8n tractor with a 6 cyl flathead in it. I was wondering if any one could know the engine specs like valve settings timing &ect and or what i should ask for as far as motor parts like gaskets, oilfilters, points, plugs air cleaners, carbs &whatever.

Most likely the 226 cid as was used in Ford cars and trucks from 1941-1951.

Like the 8N Ford made a change in the distributer on the 6 cyl. flat heads. The earlyer ones had a front mount dist. "G" engine. I have a 46 "G" in my collection. The later had a side mount dist "H" engine. If i remember correctly the change was made in 47. This is in the car and truck engine. Look in a old Motors manual and you should be able to tell the diffrence.

When getting parts, just say that the engine is out of a 1948 to 1951 Ford truck with the 226 ci engine. The kit most likely uses an industrial engine, but the parts will be the same as a Ford truck. There may be some differences in parts such as the carb and water pump within those years, but if you search within those years you will find the parts you need. The only engine parts you won't find are the starter drive and armature, which are unique to the kit.

For tune-up specs, just get a book which covers those years of Ford trucks.
