8N still not just right

You may remember I have a 48 8N front mount dist w/12 Volt conversion that had carb problems.I cleaned it really good (several times)and blew out all passages, installed new kit. I finally drilled a small hole in the top of the carb for a vent and it ran much better at high speed. I mowed yesterday and while it starts and runs good most of the time it seems like it does not have the power it should under load. The compression is over 95 on all cylinders, the points are on 15 and there is no "slop" in the distributor shaft. The gov has been reworked and is adjusted right and appears to be controlling the throttle plate correctly. It does not miss and no amount of carb adjustment changes this problem. I am thinking timing, maybe a little off there? I have good blue spark at the plug wires (here honey, hold this wire for me while I turn the engine). It just seems to bog down under load. I have checked the fuel supply and it seems freeflowing and the float bowl is at the right level when I remove it. I am using an older 5 ft cutter, it is actually too heavy for the N but is not too big I think. Any Ideas? I did check the archieves already but saw nothing I have not already tried.

I agree ,well somewhat.Just for the heck off it check the bush hog or? blade to see if it turns freely. Then try this I did and it has done wonders. The gas I was useing was the crap we all buy today, used to use leaded, andway my N wouldn"t pull my 2 bottom plow so I changed to Premium gas after about an hour it started pulling lik ethe old race horse she used to be ,NOW FOR GENERAL USE i USE THE REGULAR FOR HEAVIER STUFF i USE pREMIUM.Good Luck and let us know what you do.

Something was not clean or clear inside the carb if drilling a vent hole on top improved the running. Quote"no amount of carb adjustment changes this problem". Also points to not clean or clear inside the carb.

Probably useless info but I like to adjust stuff to run best under load. I'd turn the main adjusting screw even if you think it was set right before. I just did that duel exhoust thing and even though I adjusted the carb in the drive way, under load it needed another turn.

You shouldn't have to drill a hole in the carb to vent it. But havin said that you've purty much covered the bases. Mite try sharpin up them blades tho. Make er swang a little easier.
