I just bought a bush hog for my 9N, the first PTO driven item in the barn - all others are drag-behind. Problems:

(1) When I raise the bush hog up, the shaft hits its deck, making a horrible racket, and it has already worn through the plastic tube that covers the shaft.

(2) The bush hog's inertia causes a whole new experience, which can be a bit hair-raising, when driving and stopping, and especially when shifting gears.

Here's the question: If I get one of the PTO accessories that allow it to be disconnected, would that (1) raise the connection point so I could raise the hog higher, and (2) allow me to easily disconnect the hog's inertia from the rest of the tractor's operating parts?

Advice, please.

I've had that problem also, adjusting(shortening) your top link may help some especially for transport.

Peter, Install a ORC and a Zane Thang and you will be setup. However nether one will- "(1) raise the connection point so I could raise the hog higher". The height between the shaft and the deck is what it is.

I make and sell a device that allows you to accurately set the height of the bush hog so you can prevent such things happening.

Click on my logo at the bottom of this post for more information on this and other Thangs I sell.

Yeah, I forgot to mention buy Zane's attachment. I got it right after I got the tractor, I can't imagine trying to use the 3point hitch without it.

For sure get the Over Running Coupler (ORC)
I have the same problem with raising the mower, if I have to lift it very far, I just disconnect the PTO.

Sounds like your running that hog with out useing an ORC, if you aren't useing an ORC your looking for trouble. Also putting on an ORC might help with your other problem or make it worst can't say for sure but NO MATTER What get an ORC before you use it again. ORC is over rideing clutch which lets the hogs blades spin free so that they don't push the tractor when you push on the tractors clutch pedal
