8N serial number

I have an 8N that has a rather strange serial number sequence on the engine. From what I can see it says 8N10056# I realize that this probably isn't right, but is it possible? Has anyone run across anything similar?

Is there another area that the same serial number should be? I thought that there should be one on the back axle but I don't seem to see anything. I need to get parts for it, and want to make sure that I get the right ones since everything is based on year which is based on serial #. Unless of course you are lucky enough to have the original paperwork!

Thanks,
Chuck

In addition to the rear axle & pump base, casting dates are often found on the block just behind the starter, on the bottom of the oil pan and on the tranny.

Verify the casting dates on the axles to see if they sort of match the engine date. engines get swapped around alot. Also.. to verify that you are reading the engine# right.. it should be a front mount distrib.

It is a front mount distributor.
I will check on the axle casting dates.

That number is for a 1947 8N, that no. is not on any other place but there are casting dates on most housings and the bottom of the hydro pump.
